Here I come

My name is Monika Mareková and I am the Slovak UN youth delegate for 2011. I am 23 years old and I am doing a master degree in law at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno in the Czech Republic. This academic year I was studying as an exchange student in the Department of Law and Justice at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Canada and two years ago I was studying for one year at the Faculty of Law of University of Fribourg in Fribourg, Switzerland. In my studies I have been aimed at the international public law and human rights. This summer I am going to participate in the UN Graduate Study Programme in Geneva. Beside my studies I am doing an internship in the Czech Center for Human Rights and Democratization, within which I am responsible for doing research on the topical issues in the field of human rights and for writing articles published in the Bulletin of the Centre. While I was studying at Laurentian University I worked as an assistant of a professor in the Department of Law and Justice and I participated in the activities of the university club Rights & Democracy Student Network. I also performed a traineeship at the Office of the Crown Attorney in Sudbury. One year ago I performed an internship at the Office of the Czech Public Defender of Rights – Ombudsman. I believe that young people are able to achieve immense things; they just need to be brought to activity and to be supported in it.
